About the Author
I am a former pediatric nurse who now writes and illustrates books for children. I love science! I love to read and learn about science. I especially enjoy sharing science with others. Science becomes real when it is communicated to people. Reading science-related materials helps children discover the wonders of the world.I am fortunate to have traveled around the world and met many accomplished scientists. I'm likely one of the few people who have stood on the spot in Ethiopia with Dr. Donald Johanson where he discovered Lucy, had drinks with Dr. Jane Goodall in her living room in Gombe, Tanzania, and had dinner with Dr. Birute Galdikas in the jungles of Borneo with orangutans outside.I serve on the board of the Institute of Human Origins at Arizona State University. Because of my world travels and science writing, I am a member national of the Explorers Club. I also am a member of SCBWI, MD/DE/WV chapter.
